Maa Mahagauri is the eighth form of Goddess Durga, worshipped on Durga Ashtami. She is known for her radiant fair complexion, white attire and serene nature. She is shown riding a white bull, holding a trident and a damaru. According to tradition, she performed severe penance to win Lord Shiva, and her skin darkened. Lord Shiva then cleansed her with the waters of the Ganga, restoring her brilliant glow and giving her the name Mahagauri.

In Navratri 2026, she is worshipped on Monday, 19 October. This year Ashtami and Navami fall on the same day, so Maa Siddhidatri is worshipped on 19 October too.
