Shree Ganeshji is the beloved lord of many, his adorable and friendly portrayal is the reason for the same. He is the son of Goddess Shakti, Mata Parvati, and Mahadev Shankar, he was created by the goddess with her body sandalwood extract and clay putting life into the idol, originally named Vinayak, yet Lord Ganesh’s Names are several.

  • Pratham-Pujya is among the 108 names of Ganesha and has quite a magnitude behind it, the birth name of the lord was Vinayak meaning the lord of all, all knowledgeable. Even so, when Mata Parvati created the child Bhagavan Shankar was absent and on his return, they got in a tiff resulting in Vinayaka’s head being slayed by Mahadev. He was redeemed by attaching an elephant that is ‘Gaj’s head after which he was named ‘Gajanana’, the most celebrated among the 108 Ganpati Names. Since he was different Goddess Parvati was anxious for him so the gods blessed him to be the first one to be praised by all that is Pratham-Pujya, which would grant the devotees prosperity and successful

 

  • The names Ganesh and Ganapati signify him being the lord of ‘Gan’ the gods, even though Ganesh Ji has 12 main names among which ‘Ekadanta’ means the one tusked that is said to have an eventful importance. It is said that while writing the epic poem Mahabharat the ink of Lord Ganesh’s pen and hence he broke his tusk and started writing with it

 

  • Other Ganpati Names include ‘Vighnanashaka’ or ‘Vighnaharta’ the one who is the destroyer of all obstacles or problems, he is also called Sumukha the one who is pleasant-faced, the all-graceful lord

 

  • The lord is also called ‘Siddhidata’ the one who presents talents or ‘Sarvasiddhipradaya’ the one who grants all spiritual powers or talents

 

  • The most loved names of Ganesha are ‘Gaurisutaya’ the son of Goddess Shakti also called Gauri or ‘Gaurapriyaya’ the beloved son of Gauri, and Shivasutaya, or Shivaya meaning the son of Lord Shiva

There are Ganesh Mantra and Ganesh Aarti woven into melodies including a few names of Ganesh, explaining the same in the procedure, that are pleasant to hear and played on special occasions or while praising Lord Ganesha. These melodies are recited by devotees in Ganpati Mandir as a prayer that provides the worshippers with the Lord’s grace, happiness, and peace in life.
