Maa Katyayani is the sixth form of Goddess Durga, worshipped during Navdurga / Navratri as the sixth goddess. She is known as Mahishasura Mardini — the slayer of the demon Mahishasura. According to mythology, the gods (Devas) created her from their combined energy to defeat evil. She is often depicted riding a lion, holding a sword and a lotus in two hands, while the other two hands show Abhaya (fear-dispelling) and Varada (granting boons) mudras.
